STAAR Testing

We are getting ready for our second round of STAAR testing this week. We have spent many weeks and many hours getting the students ready for the test. We are asking the parents to help us out as well. Please make sure your child gets a good nights rest before the STAAR test. Make sure they eat a healthy breakfast in the morning of the test. Let them know that they have four hours to take the test and to use their strategies that their teachers taught them for the test. We will be serving breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday for the students before the STAAR test. Good luck to all the students taking the test.
Below you will see the test going on for each day.

Tuesday, April 22: Math 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th Social Studies

Wednesday, April 23: Reading 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 5th/8th Science

Thursday, April 24: Make-up

Friday, April 25: Make-Up

World Fair and STEM Festival

We will be having our World Fair and STEM Festival on Saturday, April 26th. The activities will start at 11:00 am both inside the school and outside as well. We will have a variety of games and food for the day along with STEM related demenstrations in the gym. In the afternoon we will have Congressman Ralph Hall speak to the STEM students. Tickets for the games and food will start at .25 cents a piece. All money raised will go to the students. Come out and support our school!


As you know, with the funding from Race to The Top District grant, Harmony Public Schools started a 1:1 technology initiative in the beginning of this school year, and handed a chrome book device to every single student and core subject teacher in grades 6 thru 12. All Harmony educators and leaders see this initiative as a tremendous opportunity to personalize student learning and radically improve achievement. With the right approach, leveraging technology can yield promising academic results and boost performance both for students and teachers. In an effort to assess effectiveness and improve our technology initiative, Harmony Public Schools intends to conduct a scholarly research on how technology integration into classrooms impacts students, teachers, and parents. This research will help school and district leaders at Harmony to make sound research-based judgments about future design and refinement of our technology programs. It will also give us a chance to get input from our most valued stakeholders. The researcher will keep participant identities confidential and will not release it to any Harmony employees, nor will he link any identities to survey inputs. We are excited about this research opportunity and would definitely like to see all our teachers, parents, and students participate as much as possible. Thank you for your continued support!

Chromebook Turn-in

Dear Parents,

The following dates below will be reserved for students turning in their chromebooks. Please remember that any intentional damage, missing keys, missing battery charger,etc. will be added to the students account and fees will need to be paid or enrollment for your child(ren) will be postponed. Please see Mrs. Metz (ext 135) to pay a far cheaper alternative for broken/missing Keys.

HSI-Garland Ground Breaking

On Tuesday, April 15th the Mayor of Garland, Dr. Harper, HSA-Garland administraion, parents, and high school students broke ground for our new campus. HSI-Garland will be the middle and high school building starting in the 2014-2015 school year. The school will be opening in August. We are all excited for the expansion of our Harmony schools.



Turning Chromebooks in!

Dear Parents,

As we near the end of the year, we wanted to inform you on how the chromebook will be turned in and the requirements. Please note that chromebooks need to have all of the keys present and working as outlined by the agreement that was signed. If you would like to pay a far cheaper amount, please see Mrs. Metz (ext 135) about paying to have your child's chromebook repaired over the next 4 weekends. After paying, please drop off the chromebook to Mr. Kraham Friday before leaving school, and pick it back up Monday morning.

Failure to have the keyboard fixed, lost chromebook, missing power adapter, etc will result in the following charges being added the last week of school below. (Chromebook turn-in will be the last week of May)

? Screen - $90.00
? Keyboard/touchpad - $52.00
? Power cord - $32.00

It is very important to remember that current insurance policy does not cover for loss of the Chromebook and/or its accessories, cosmetic damage, or damages caused by intentional misuse and abuse. Parents/Students will be charged for full replacement cost of a device that has been lost or damaged due to intentional misuse or abuse. The use of a collection agency will be enforced should balances not be paid.

High School Summer Research Program

The program is open to all high school students who will be at least 16 years old by June 09, 2014, and who have a G.P.A. of at least 2.5 on a scale of 4.0. Participants will be selected from applicants by the Committee in Support of Science Education of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Candidates are required to have completed a course in high school chemistry. Juniors and sophomores who have an interest in and aptitude for science will be given primary consideration. These will be judged in terms of:

-course grades and standardized test scores
-demonstrated motivation (e.g., in pursuing a science hobby or special project)
-recommendations from a science or math teacher and a counselor
-student's essay about his/her hopes for the experience.

Parent Round Tables

HSA-Garland is going to start offering parent round tables. This is where parents can come together and listen to Harmony staff talk about specific topics that relate to your children. After the talks parents will be able to ask questions from the staff and also speak with other parents about this topic. Below you will find the dates, times, and subject matter we will talk about. Chromebook Repair!

Dear parents,

If your child was issued a chromebook (6-11th graders) please take a moment to inspect the chromebook for missing keys, screws or other parts. We will have a parent/booth on campus Friday during the parent-teacher conference (12:45) who will take some information down and give you a quote in how much it would cost to repair the chromebook. Please be aware that the contract signed since receiving the chromebook states that the chromebook shall be in working condition when turned in. Please feel free to use a repair technician of your choice, but come time for turning them in, they need to be in working condition. Please contact should you have any questions. We will have the booth set up at around 12:45 in the front lobby. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
